You may have heard that Facebook acquired the mobile-messaging app, "Whatsapp" yesterday for the tune of $19 BILLION.
What does this mean for you, as a Facebook user? Social Media Expert, John Marino joined me today to talk about it:
Facebook announced yesterday the purchase of WhatsApp for $19 billion, the largest purchase by the company yet. WhatsApp has over 450 million users that send texts, photos and videos within the app for free. It's already really popular in places like Europe in Asia, where you have to pay to send text messages. Facebook says it has no plans to make any changes to the app. In the next 12 months I expect Facebook to update the private messaging on the app and online to be more like WhatsApp. This acquisition positions both companies to leverage their audiences and continue to grow together.
